This is a fan managed archive for Id Software’s unreleased video game DOOM 4, which was in development from around 2008 to 2012 before being cancelled and retooled into a new game simply titled DOOM that was eventually released in 2016. DOOM 4, sometimes referred to as DOOM: Hell on Earth by some of its developers, was set to be a modern reimagining of the 1994 game DOOM II: Hell on Eart, much like how 2004’s DOOM 3 had been a reimagining of the original DOOM from 1993. It was initially being worked on by a recently established second development team at Id Software founded partway through the development of the game RAGE up until its release in 2011.

The game’s final prototype build was available on Steam’s servers for Id Software developers up until 2016, at which all packages were pulled and the Steam database ID was removed and later repurposed for a different game. Because of the game’s tumultuous development and the limited information available, very little clear details is known about the game and very few developers are interested, or legally able, to speak about it. This archive exists to shed light on as much of the game as possible and consists of a lot of research efforts done by small but dedicated community consisting of members like myself, Crispies (aka. Runhob) and WadOverdose.
